About the 9th SS Hohenstaufen Living History Group
The world has had many conflicts in it's past but none as significant as WWII. More men and women were under arms than ever before in our history. The world as we know it was indelibly changed and has grown out of that conflict.
Now, today, some 50+ years later a group of dedicated people has formed an organization which remembers those who gave so very much and to preserve their history. This is done through the use of uniforms, equipment, and even the vehicles of the era. Our ranks are filled with collectors, military history buffs, vehicle owners, students, and businesspersons who share in our purpose to relive and keep alive the many traditions and memories of the WWII combat soldiers. As a unit, we demand three things of our members: Authenticity, a non-political standpoint, and above all else - SAFETY. Our goal is to educate the public about the importance of preserving artifacts of the era and to sponsor the growth and development of reenacting as a highly rewarding, enriching, and educational hobby!
Our dedication to portraying the 9th SS PZ. DIV. was based in part on the period that we wished to recreate. This being the years, 1943-1945. The 9th SS fought on two fronts in both the East and West giving our unit the option of attending events based on either front. The 9th SS had a most distinguished history and was well respected by all, enemy included.
By reenacting as the 9th SS we have created a unique opportunity to "battle" alongside the majority of existing reenactor units that had their actual real units engage in battle alongside or against the 9th SS. This historic accuracy in the field is an important aspect in our determination to be authentic and correct in all facets of the hobby.
As a reenactment group, it is essential for us to stress that we are NOT a political group nor are we a para-military organization. Our goal is to promote awareness and understanding on the part of the public, those elements of world history from 1939-1945; specifically the military history of WWII, through the staging of public educational exhibitions, lectures, displays and reenactments of typical battles fought between the Allied and Axis forces in WWII!
In addition to the educating of the public in the history of WWII, it is our desire to foster a general understanding of the German soldier, and to portray him as a man first, in a struggle to survive a war he hoped to see the end of, something that makes him a brother to all soldiers, of all nations, of all wars!
